Appearance: Envy’s usual guise is that of an androgynous young man of average height with a thin build. He has long, green-black hair, pulled back by a thick, black headband that has a point-down triangle on it. It falls in separate clumps to his waist, which has earned him many interesting nicknames. He wears a tall necked, black belly shirt with no sleeves, a short, black skirt with black shorts underneath, black fingerless gloves, and black toeless and heelless socks. On his upper left thigh he has the red mark of a homunculus, a curled-up dragon around six triangles.

Personality: Envy is, as his name suggests, envious and easily moved to jealousy. He is a person of obsessions, and he hates the people who have what he wants and those who made him as he is, and jealously guards what he does have.

Envy is often violent and erratic, especially when he’s angry. He hates appearing weak, always wanting to come out on top. He ha only recently learned what it’s like to have people care about him, and it’s still rather confusing to him.

Above all he is a strategist, and he has an unexpected amount of self-control and self-confidence. He is sly and manipulative, knowing how to play people to get them on his side, but he commands an unexpected amount of loyalty from those who follow him. Envy is selfish, and uses people to get what he wants, but, though he would never admit it, he cares about them.

Abilities/Strengths: Envy’s greatest strength is his ability to transform. He can become a perfect copy of anyone, as well as change parts of his body into weapons. He has superhuman strength, and even beside that he is a great fighter. His self-confidence is another strength, as is his ability to strategize.

Weapons: Envy is himself a weapon, with his superhuman strength, his fighting ability, and his ability to transform his limbs into weapons.

Weaknesses: Like all homunculi, proximity to his human skeleton is Envy's greatest weakness, though his skeleton appears to have been lost to time. When he’s angry, Envy lashes out without thinking, which is a rather big weakness. He’s very territorial about things, and people, that are “his”, and can become irrational when someone threatens to take them.

Notable Possessions: Envy has a stockpile of the fake philosopher's stones, called red stones. Given to him by Dante for emergency healing or to give to new homunculi, Envy keeps these red stones on his person at all times (though you'll never be able to find them. ^_~).

History: Envy was born human, the child of a pair of scientists, but his human name has been buried by time, which is as he wants it. His father, Hohenheim, was almost always away, while his mother, Dante, saw him as an annoyance and ignored whenever possible. He spent most of his human life trying to gain his parents love, or at least their recognition.

Since both his parents were extremely talented alchemists, and he thought the best way to finally receive attention from them would be to become an alchemist himself. If he did something amazing with it, there was certainly no way they could ignore him. Unfortunately, plans didn’t go according to plan, and he died from Mercury poison he got in his experiments.

His death occurred during one of his father’s rare visits home, and with his son’s death Hohenheim realized how he’d been neglecting him. Hoping to remedy his mistake, Hohenheim dabbled further into alchemy than man is supposed to travel and tried to bring his son back to life. He ended up with a monstrosity.

It was almost like a human. But it was dark, twisted, completely deprived of its humanity, and while it had much of its old memories, it was nothing like the son he’d meant to bring back. It was a homunculus. It was Envy, and Hohenheim’s greatest sin. Almost immediately after his failure Hohenheim left, this time with no plan to ever return.

At first Dante lavished attention on the newly created Envy. He was her shiny, new toy; the epitome of alchemy’s accomplishments, a clue to finding herself a more complete eternal life, and above all, a way to get to Hohenheim. He was a tool, but one best won over with the love and attention he’d always craved. Even though it was all pretense on her part, Envy soaked up Dante’s apparent love, willing to do whatever she asked.

That is, until he realized it was false love, just a way to control him. At first he was all right with that, because even if she didn’t care, she was still paying attention to him. But within two short decades he started to despise her for it, and her hatred for her only grew. He had no fondness for Hohenheim, who left him, but his loathing was reserved for the mother who pretended to care in order to use him.

His hatred only grew when Dante brought a dead lover back as the new homunculus Greed, because then what attention she did give him was turned to her new creation. The new monster was weak, and needed many more of the red stones that sustained homunculus life than Envy did. It didn’t deserve the attention, in Envy’s opinion. He hated it, and it was then he decided he would destroy both of them, and started plotting their demise.

But in the end it was Greed who left, disgusted with Dante. Greed’s rebellion was easily squashed, and with Envy’s help, because he still couldn’t bring himself to actually act on his hatred, and Greed was imprisoned.

Envy worked on his plans for his own rebellion over decades, working around the other sins. He hinted at his plans to the original Lust, but the woman was far too stupid, acting on her own thinking it would help him and getting herself killed.

Four centuries after his own life had begun Dante and Envy found that Hohenheim had started another family. Dante flew into a rage, saying she would destroy them as soon as se found out who and where they were. Envy decided that anyone with such potential to piss off Dante with their mere existence was worth helping, insofar as it didn’t endanger his own plans.

When these half brothers of his human self lost their mother and tried to bring her back, Dante gleefully took her and turned her into Sloth, a petty revenge against this other family she hated.

That day was also the first time Envy and these half brothers of his met, though the one that had been transplanted into armor was almost crazy at the time, and the other was unconscious. Envy gave the armor one the idea to actually go for help instead of freaking out, and watched as the armor one dragged the unconscious one away.

It wasn’t the last time he saw these half brothers, Ed and Al. They weren’t on bad terms, though; Hohenheim had left them as well, even though their mother had loved them, and they were quite good at annoying Dante. While they worked towards the Philosopher’s Stone, Envy helped on occasion, deflected where it would mess with his own plans, and hindered where he couldn’t get around Dante’s orders.

But his half brothers were hardly his main concern. With all seven sins existing now, he definitely needed to have some of them on his side if he were going to rebel against Dante.

The first sin he approached was Lust during their time in Lior. Their meeting included a battle that served to prove Envy’s superiority, and ended with sex, as that is, after all, the best way to keep Lust in one’s own power. The new Lust, at least, understood the need to follow his planning and not go off doing thing her own way. And in addition to adding Lust to his rebellion he got Lust’s loyal companion Gluttony.

Hearing Greed had gotten out of his prison, Envy dragged Lust and Gluttony on a nice social call to his old annoyance. Using Lust to drag Greed out of hiding, sine the old sin had never met this new one, but would certainly not be able resist a beautiful woman.

It worked rather better than Envy expected, as Lust was rather all right with Greed’s advances, and Lust was his, not Greed’s. It turned into a rather epic battle, the renewal of old grudges, for Greed had hated Envy as much as he’d hated Greed. In the end Lust talked Envy into leaving before he killed Greed.

Next Envy went to see Wrath, knowing the youngest and most human sin was extremely unhappy as Dante’s pawn. This, too, came down to a battle, since Wrath didn’t like the idea of appearing weak, though there was no hope of him winning. When finally Wrath surrendered, Envy sent him to keep an eye on Ed and Al.

At this point he had to report to Dante. On the way there they ran into Greed, who was planning to raid Dante’s base for red stones to recover from his recent fight with Envy, or more likely die trying. Envy was more than willing to help with the second idea, but Lust stopped him yet again. During their travelling, Envy and Lust’s relationship had progressed in its own twisted way, and having her protect Greed yet again sent Envy into a temper. She was his, but if she was going to be like that, she and Greed were welcome to each other, and he’d just put off his plans until the next batch of homunculi showed up.

Somewhere in the midst off Envy’s ranting and temper tantrum he calmed down enough to think, and realized an even better idea would be to alter his plans to include, who had always been excluded on principle. After all, Greed hated Dante nearly as much as he did. He only hated Envy because he played mother’s pawn so very well.

Using revenge against Dante as bait and a promise of red stones from his own personal stash, because Envy was a trusted pawn, if an unloved one, and Dante let him have a stash to give to new homunculi or to heal any damage he took, which he’d been hording over the centuries. With such an offer, Greed was willing to join Envy, if not happy about it.

Even with all but two of the homunculi on his side, it there was still some maneuvering to do before Envy could stage his rebellion. One job was to set up the flame alchemist’s part in it, and Envy foiled one of Dante’s plans by letting one of the man’s subordinates who was getting to close to real information go, instead of killing him as Dante had ordered.

While they went about maneuvering, the relationship between Envy, Lust, and Greed changed. Greed came first to respect Envy’s strategizing abilities, but this eventually developed into a threesome relationship. While Envy had hated the thought of Lust and Greed together while he was still an enemy, now that both Lust and Greed were his, it hardly mattered if they were together as well as with him.

Their rebellion coincided with Ed, and the flame alchemist’s attack on Dante’s base to save Al, who had been kidnapped by Sloth. Gluttony went crazy early into the battle, and Envy himself had to put him down, with some help from Greed, losing one ally, if one who had never been especially essential. Wrath was injured in the battle with Sloth, and had to be left with Al, whose armor body was damaged.

The final battle against Pride and Dante was more difficult than he’d expected. Both Ed and the flame alchemist where injured during it, and Greed was lost, destroyed by Dante’s alchemy. Both she and Pride were defeated in the end. Pride was completely destroyed, but Dante, with her last strength, called the alchemy gate and sent Envy through it to whatever lay beyond it, leaving her dead, Lust, Ed, and the flame alchemist to make it back to Al and Wrath, and Envy in Econtra.>
